Side folding tabloid newspaper format. 24 pp. Black and white photos and illustrations throughout. Early issue of this underground newspaper from the Washington DC area, founded by journalist Bill Blum and others in 1966. Editorially, it embraced radical politics, often in line with the SDS. It covered the resistance to Vietnam War and other Movement issues. This number with interesting layout and typography, blending a steampunk and psychedelic look. With pieces on Judge Pugh, the shutdown of a music and pro marijuana festival, etc. A long poem on the rear cover, "Instructions," is attributed to the International Werewolf Conspiracy (IWWC). The IWWC was a splinter group formed from the demise of the Up Against the Wall/Motherfuckers organization. Like the Motherfuckers, the IWWC used avant-garde art and events to reject the status quo of mainstream society and advocate for an anarchist sort of philosophy. The IWWC embraced the idea of a werewolf as transformational, and representative of its aims. The group was rather short-lived, primarily creating material from 1969 to 1970 (See Flores, David, A Motherfucker is a Werewolf for previous information). GOOD condition. Horizontal fold crease present. Moderate toning, a bit heavier along the edges. Light wrinkling, creasing and soiling. Mostly minor chipping and tearing to the extremities, with a thin narrow piece missing from the lower front cover edge at the corner.
