An early account of a transgender woman and sex-affirming surgery, drawing on the original documents kept by Lili Ilse Elvenes, better known as Lili Elbe. She had a career as a painter and modeled as a woman for her wife's art (before transitioning). Elbe underwent a series of operations beginning in 1930. She died in 1931 after the transplant of a uterus that was rejected by her body. GOOD+ condition. General toning and minor scuffing to the covers. Some browning along the rear hinge.
