no date, presumed 1984. Single sheet, roughly 8 by 5 inches, folded in half to make 4 pp. Collage photo on the front featuring George Clinton with the rest of the piece being promotional copy. A piece advertising a breakdancing competition to be held at the Old World in Huntington Beach, California in 1984, put on by promoters Low Motion and Ice Tee. It was a $200 winner take all contest and featured crews and solo acts such as the Wizards of Oz, Flashcrew, the L.A. Breakers, The Deadly Double (Hardrock), The Tommyboy Rockers, etc. Included was a special guest appearance by the newest sensation in "rapping," hip hop artist Dr. K. The piece also sent out a "special invitation" to the L.A. Thibreakers, S.C.P., Tiny, The Rubberband Man, Masterblaster, Fancy Dancers, L.P.C. Breakers, Streetscene, The Island Breakers, Ground Control, Omity, T.C., the Floor Explorers, and any other poppers and breakers who THINK, they're worthy of this colossal event!" The art of breakdancing originated in the 1970s along with the birth of hip hop music, with dances evolving from earlier styles. By 1984 it had gained considerable popularity in mainstream culture, including through the movie Breakin. Its popularity on the West Coast and in Los Angeles led breakdancing to be featured at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. VERY GOOD condition. Minor toning and edgewear.
