Heroes and Heroines at ABC No Rio Exhibition Flyer. June 3-15, (1984).
New York: ABC No Rio, Presumed Publisher, 1984. Unbound. Very Good. Item #022414
no date, presumed 1984 based on archive records. Single sheet, 8 ½ by 11 inches. Printed on a single side only. A flyer for an exhibition curated by Tim Hillis, "Heroes and Heroines." The exhibition was held from June 3 to the 15th, and featured performances from the artists, including Guenevere Reed-Tacla, Noah Jemison, Olivia Beens, Jorge Tacla, Tim Hillis and I.L. Art. ABC No Rio originated with the 1980 Real Estate Show, a show documenting housing issues in New York City. It was shut down almost immediately, and artists reached a settlement with the city that they could occupy 156 Rivington Street. At this space many shows focusing on political themes such as war, drugs, homelessness, sex and other subjects have been staged. By the mid 1980s performance art began to flourish at the venue, with ABC No Rio then becoming an important place for punk and hardcore shows. It is still in operation today, after reaching agreements with NYC to purchase and renovate its building. VERY GOOD condition. Minor toning. A few small wrinkles/creases at the corners.
