Ned Brewster's Caribou Hunt
Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1914. First Edition. Cloth. Good. Item #022163
First edition. Illustrated brown cloth. 308 pp. With a few photographs throughout. An apparent nonfiction account of the author and his father's travels in Newfoundland to find the headwaters of the Gander River and explore the interior at the same time. The author recounts their experiences with several members of the Micmac tribe who were supposed to serve as guides but were perhaps using them to poach foxes. The author uses negative stereotypes and language to describe the guides. With a few photos of the indigenous Micmac men. GOOD condition. Some spotting, staining, soiling and scuffing to the covers. Interior hinge cracked but holding. Text block slightly shaken, with minor toning.
