Now Your Town Can Have a 'Professional Riot!' Satirical Poster.
Los Angeles: Westside Press, 1969. Unbound. Good. Item #022090
Single sheet, 28 ¾ by 22 ½ inches. Thick paper stock. Printed on a single side. A later printing of this protest satirizing/mocking the student protest movement of the mid 1960s. The original was issued by the conservative/racist organization Alert Americans Association with no indication as to printer or publisher. The poster advertises demonstrations for any cause, supplying protestors, riot kits, etc. Space for a selection of violent or nonviolent protests provided in the order form. OF NOTE is that this version was printed by a Black owned print shop, presumably by Vermont S. Galloway at his Westside Press at 5618 West Adams Boulevard in Los Angeles. Galloway notably published a graphic poster depicting a person who had been shot by police 25 times, and another poster in support of Angela Davis (in 1972). Galloway was shot and killed by police shortly after the publication of his pro-Angela Davis poster. Our conjecture is that Galloway coopted the right wing's work to support left wing causes, that by 1969 was much more prevalent and accepted. GOOD condition. Some curling to the poster. General toning, minor wrinkling and creasing. Small tear at the lower edge. Small piece missing at the top left corner.
