An Introduction to Algebra; with Notes and Observations; designed for the use of Schools and Places of Public Education

Philadelphia: Joseph Crukshank, Publisher, 1806. First American Edition. Full Leather. Good. Item #021477

First American edition, so stated. From previously published British editions. Full calf leather. 208 pp. An educational work teaching algebra to school age students, by English mathematics teacher, John Bonnycastle. Provenance: signature of Thomas R. Hazard, dated 10 mo, 17. 1809, on the first endpaper. This may be that of noted American author, abolitionist, social reformer and advocate of Spiritualism, Thomas R. Hazard. If so, it would have been from around the time he was twelve years old. We have not independently verified the signature or established clear provenance to his ownership. GOOD condition. Leather somewhat scuffed and worn, with heavy scuffing along the hinges. Date stamp from 1953 also on the first endpaper, with two small owner's signatures on the title page. Some offsetting/glue staining along the edges of the first several pages. Some toning and scattered foxing in the interior.

Price: $60.00
