First American edition of this classic memoir, recounting the author's experience in Tibet after escaping an English prison camp during World War II. FAIR/GOOD condition. Unfortunately, the dust jacket has been laminated, preserving forever the heavy chipping, tearing and creasing along the extremities, as well as lost to the jacket. This also includes old tape repairs, general toning, minor soiling and staining. minor soiling, staining and discoloration to the book covers. Moderate fading to the spine. Previous owners' name on the inside front cover. Dampstaining present in the gutters of the pages of photographs, as well as along the foredge of the title page.
