War in the Desert. Wilson and McCallay Tobacco Premium Poster

Middletown, OH: Wilson and McCallay, Publisher. Unbound. Good. Item #018347

no date, presumed late 1800s, early 1900s. Single sheet, thick paper stock. 21 by 28 inches. A color lithograph print "after Ad. Schreyer" depicting a desert battle scene. Originally painted by Christian Adolf Schreyer around 1870, the scene probably draws on his experiences in Egypt and Syria, as well as his experiences in the Crimean War (see Santa Barbara Museum of Art for previous info). The poster was a tobacco premium prize offered when one turned in 25 tags. GOOD condition. Stored rolled, thus heavily curled. Right edge with extensive brown tape repairs the entire length of the blank border, being an unsightly and unfortunate addition to the poster. Some wrinkling and creasing to the poster, with several tears along the left and right sides. Minor general toning and soiling.

Price: $75.00
