Settlers Upon Miami Reserve in Kansas. March 29, 1860. 36th Congress, 1st Session, Report No. 256. House of Representatives
No Place: No Publisher. Pamphlet. Good. Item #017118
No publisher, place or date. Presumed US Government Printing Office, Washington DC: 1860. Pamphlet, disbound from a larger work. No wrappers. 6 pp. A petition from supposed settlers on land in Kansas, seeking to remain on the land, land which was given by treaty to the Miami Indian tribe. An alleged error by a land officer may have led to white settlers moving to the land, but according to this document, a rich timber supply that was being harvested and sold at market was probably the true reason for the trespassing. It appears the Indian Agent for the tribe was threatened with violence when trying to remove the encroachers. GOOD condition. Minor toning. Some wear, chipping and creasing along the spine edge.
