By Metta Victoria Fuller Victor, a 19th century novelist best known for writing what is considered one of the first detective novels in the United States, The Dead Letter (under the name Seeley Regester). FAIR/GOOD condition. Heavy toning to the covers, with moderate soiling and staining. Dampstain along the fore edge of the front cover and first several pages. Old address label on the front cover. Wrappers split, torn and worn along the hinges, with several chips, tears and creases along the extremities. Owner's signature on the title page. Scattered foxing in the interior.
