Side folding tabloid format. 64 pp between the two parts. An issue of this pioneering underground newspaper, known as the Freep. Established in 1964, the paper was known for its coverage of the counterculture movement and radical politics, as well as its strong anti-Vietnam War stance. Financial and staffing troubles led to its eventual demise in 1978. This issue with a lengthy article on Huey Newton and the Revolutionary People's Constitutional Convention: a conference organized by the Black Panther Party in 1970. Members of various organizations representing the Black Power movement, the Chicano movement, American Indian movement, women's and gay liberation attended, gathering in various workshops that created declarations to be incorporated into a new constitution. While this convention was considered a success, the momentum built from it was stalled at a second, failed convention in Washington, DC, due to disputes over venues, interference from police, etc. With other articles on the ecology of violence, counter education, etc. Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comix on the front cover.
