No publisher, place or date. Presumed Washington, 1876. Pamphlet, disbound from a larger work and lacking any wrappers issued. 63 pp. A printing of testimony given before the Committee on Expenditures in the Interior Department, all related to an alleged scheme undertaken by surveyor of the Wyoming Territory, Silas Reed. The allegations were that deputy surveyors under Reed were compelled to give part of their contract earnings to friends of Reed. Mr. Reed asserted this was false, and was concocted by a "ring" against him. Piece includes testimony from Reed, as well as from a real estate agent in Cheyenne, L.C. Stevens, etc. Silas Reed served as head surveyor in the Illinois-Missouri region from 1841 to 1870, then becoming head surveyor in the Wyoming Territory. He resigned in 1875 due in part to these allegations. GOOD condition. Remains of binding along the spine. Minor toning. Minor chipping and creasing at the corners.
