Half leather, covered in blue paper dust jacket. 958 pp. Signed by George Peabody on the title page. Containing the Peabody Institute bookplate on the inside front cover, which also states, Presented by George Peabody. George Peabody (1795-1869) is considered one of the first modern philanthropists, establishing trusts to help the poor, as well as founding the Peabody Institute. He gained much of his fortune from banking, eventually partnering with Junius Spencer Morgan, father of J.P. Morgan. An index to the Monthly Review, listing topics or subjects in alphabetical order. EX-LIBRARY, from the Peabody Institute. In GOOD condition. Covered in blue paper, with library markings on the spine. Some fading, and moderate scuffing to the covers and extremities. Covers reinforced along the interior hinges with cloth tape. Library ownership stamp and call numbers on the title pages. Small circular library stamp on a few pages in the text. Minor scattered foxing and soiling, a bit heavier to the title page. Minor toning to the pages.
