ISBN: noisbn

no date, presumed 1969/70. Newspaper tabloid format. 16 pp. Black and white photos throughout. Second City was an underground newspaper published by the Guild Bookstore. It met severe repression from local police, including members of the so-called "red squad" of the Chicago Police Department. Resorting to staged violence and other means of repression, the squad received support by the Army's 113th Military Intelligence Group (Rips, The Campaign Against the Underground Press, online source). This issue discusses the farce that was the investigation into the police murder of Black Panther leader Fred Hampton; police attacks against the Young Lords during a march; news on a city-wide gay dance sponsored by the Chicago Gay Liberation organization; news on Vietnam; the sexism of Playboy magazine, etc. GOOD condition. Horizontal fold crease present. Moderate toning. Some creasing along the extremities.

Price: $45.00
