Side folding tabloid format. 56 pp. An issue of this pioneering underground newspaper, known as the Freep. Established in 1964, the paper was known for its coverage of the counterculture movement and radical politics, as well as its strong anti-Vietnam War stance. Financial and staffing troubles led to its eventual demise in 1978. This issue with several letters from prisoners in the Soledad prison, attesting to inhumane conditions, racial tensions incited by prison guards and officials, and other mistreatments; a letter from the Weather Underground on the Capitol bombing, many book reviews, etc. GOOD condition. Moderate toning. Faint horizontal fold crease present. Minor chipping and tearing along the extremities. Small faint pencil notations on the front page. Some soiling.
