Side folding tabloid newspaper format. 24 pp. Black and white photos throughout. Muhammad Speaks was a newspaper published by the Nation of Islam, founded by Elijah Muhammad and providing coverage of current events and news relating to African-Americans and the African-American community, ranging from international topics to covering the successes of school children in school. Many issues document the Civil Rights struggle, including police brutality and violent examples of white oppression. This issue with piece by Elijah Muhammad, as well as a piece written by Eldridge Cleaver while in San Quentin Prison (reprinted from Negro History Bulletin) several photos of Malcolm X (one at a roundtable discussion), etc. Front cover a photo of a dead African-American man, shot by police and apparently beaten after he was dead. GOOD condition. Moderate toning to the paper, with heavy chipping and tearing along the extremities. Paper rather brittle.
