Side folding tabloid format. 64 pp. An issue of this pioneering underground newspaper, known as the Freep. Established in 1964, the paper was known for its coverage of the counterculture movement and radical politics, as well as its strong anti-Vietnam War stance. Financial and staffing troubles led to its eventual demise in 1978. This issue with a piece on the history of the Black Panthers and its recent split; several pieces on anti-war protests, including the mass arrests at the May Day protest in Washington, DC; news on the trial of the Venice Five; two full length side banner advertisements for a John Lennon audio collage "the more pain the more god;" etc. GOOD condition. Moderate general browning. Paper slightly brittle. Mostly minor wrinkling and creasing, with a few small chips, along the extremities. Minor soiling. Faint fold crease present.
