Side folding tabloid format. 24 pp. Black and white photos throughout. Early issue of this pioneering underground newspaper, known as the Freep. Established in 1964, the paper was known for its coverage of the counterculture movement and radical politics, as well as its strong anti-Vietnam War stance. Financial and staffing troubles led to its eventual demise in 1978. This issue with an article on and interview with Timothy Leary, regarding LSD and psychedelic drug use and his activities surrounding experimentation and the formation of a group to formalize use of LSD. Another article reprints a piece by Los Angeles police on LSD, its use and effects, with some not entirely negative conclusions. With short pieces on films, books, music, etc. GOOD condition. Moderate general browning. Paper slightly brittle. Horizontal fold crease present. Some staining and light soiling. A few stray notes to the front cover. Some wrinkling and creasing, with several small tears along the extremities.
