A guide to the correct use of the English language, with a lengthy section of common errors of speech in which the author often mentions the region or state (in the United States) in which the misuse often occurs, how the words are pronounced or misused, and where perhaps the origins of the misuse can be found. Hurd also includes a three page section of Americanisms, providing short definitions of phrases or words only used in America, and what their counterpart, if any, would be in England. GOOD condition. General darkening. Minor soiling and scuffing. Moderate to heavy scuffing and wear along the extremities, especially the corners. Heavy foxing to the endpapers, with minor scattered foxing, and general toning, in the interior.
