Printed wraps. 23 pp. A piece addressing the recent territorial "acquisitions" of the United States through its war with Spain, including the Philippines and Puerto Rico, arguing that since the US gained those countries as victor, it should keep them rather than grant autonomy. Reid cites precedent of the US annexing various territories across North America. He also uses the goals of California to plead his case, citing the port of San Francisco and its growth and importance in trade worldwide. Whitelaw Reid was a politician and newspaper editor, arguing for the importance of partisan newspapers in the US (see Wikipedia). GOOD condition. Faint stamp and handwritten price on the upper front cover. Heavy darkening and offsetting to the wraps, with some soiling and minor staining. Heavy chipping and small tears along the extremities. Wrappers splitting along the spine.

Price: $25.00
