Blue printed wraps. 22 pp. Offprint from the April-June issue of the China Quarterly, providing a history of the political career and political philosophy of Liu Shaoqi, anticipating him as a successor to Mao Zedong. While Shaoqi was a prominent leader of the Communist Party in China, dissent between him and Mao caused him to be jailed and tortured in the late 1960s, serving as an example to others. He died in 1969, due to several years of harsh mistreatment. GOOD condition. Moderate uneven fading and browning to the wrappers, with minor soiling and a few small stains. Interior toned.
