First translation into a Western language of the Eiga Monogatari, a chronicle of 11th century Japanese aristocratic life from the middle of the tenth century to about 1028. With detailed information on the life of the Heian Imperial Court, etc. 19 woodcuts present, taken from a 17th century printing. GOOD+ condition. Minor fading to the jackets, mostly along the spines, with faint spotting present. Very light soiling and edgewear. Minor fading and a hint of spotting to the books.
