SIGNED by Eugene McCarthy, Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale and Harold Stassen. Beside serving in various elected political positions (including 2 as Vice-Presidents of the United States), all four ran are also noted for having run (unsuccessfully) for president. Harold Stassen ran many times as a Republican candidate, never receiving his party's nomination; Walter Mondale served as Vice-President from 1977-81 and ran against Ronald Reagan in 1984; Hubert Humphrey served as Vice-President from 1965-69 and ran against Richard Nixon in 1968; Eugene McCarthy is perhaps best known for his 1968 presidential run, where he gained some success running as an anti-war candidate opposed to Johnson's handling of the Vietnam War.
