Gray printed wraps. 7 pp. A printing of an address given at the Cultural Institute of Bogota, Columbia in 1943, discussing changes in painting from the 19th century to the mid-20th century, citing in brief, the tendencies of the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements, as well as Cubism and experiments in collage. This includes mention of important artists such as Cezanne, as well as the principles and concepts behind the various movements. Lewisohn also discusses Surrealism, being somewhat dismissive and derisive in his comments. He cites Edward Hopper, Max Weber, Walt Kuhn as important American artists, as well as the young Stuart Davis, among others. GOOD condition. Minor foxing, staining and soiling to the covers. Light curling and edgwear. Some toning.
