Beige paper covered boards with a cloth spine. 220 pp. An historical novel based on Pompeii and the eruption that buried the city, drawing on historical accounts and research to portray life in the last few days of the city. FAIR condition. Moderate to heavy staining, dampstaining and spotting to the covers, with some soiling, general fading and scuffing. Cloth torn, frayed, worn and peeling away from the spine, being very ragged and worn. Heavy bumping, scuffing and wear along the edges, with corners rounded and boards exposed beneath the paper. Many owner's signatures in pen and pencil on the first endpaper and first few pages. Rear endpaper perhaps missing. Heavy scattered foxing throughout, with some creasing to the pages. Wright 1059.
