Gray-blue cloth with illustration and titling in gilt. Folio. Xxii, 191 pp. Black and white illustrations by Gustave Dore throughout. Originally published in 1872, this 1890 edition provides an illustrated look at the social life in the various sections of London, depicted by Gustave Dore and accompanied by commentary by Jerrold Blanchard, with critics of the time noting that it seemed to focus on the poverty present in London (see Wikipedia). Areas included were the docks, the Newgate Jail, around Westminster, etc. GOOD condition. Covers faded, scuffed and soiled, with some areas of staining along the upper front cover. Cloth frayed and worn at the corners and tips of the spine. Corners bumped. Interior solid, with scattered soiling and general toning to the paper. A few very small dampstains to the extremities of a few pages.
