Decorative brown cloth. 7 3/4 by 5 ½ inches wide. Xvi, 425 pages. With illustrations throughout, including 4 battle maps. A broad biography of Ulysses S. Grant from his early life, time spent at West Point, the Mexican War, presidency, etc. The work also contains many chapters on Grant in the Civil War, discussing battles and battle strategy. GOOD condition. White paint streak on the upper front hinge. Moderate uneven fading and scuffing, with some soiling. Extremities bumped, scuffed and worn. Front endpaper MISSING. Minor toning to the paper. Very light scattered soiling in the interior. Slight lean to the binding.
