No publisher or place. Circa 1886. Beige paper covered boards with a color pastedown illustration on the front. 12 pages including blank endpapers. Black and white illustrations and decorations by Childe Hassam throughout. A somewhat maudlin poem reflecting on the heroism and actions of a girl rescuing her younger brother from a tenement fire, losing her sight in the process. This work appeared in a March 1886 issue of Wide Awake, although no record of it as a single piece or in this form appears in the OCLC. GOOD condition. Heavy scuffing and uneven fading/browning to the covers. Some staining and soiling to the covers. Heavy bumping and scuffing along the extremities with chipping to the paper. Lower spine torn and frayed, with the cloth split along the front hinge to just over half way up. Paper toned in the interior. A few small spots of staining and soiling. Inscription on the first endpaper.
