Dark brown pebbled cloth. 156 pp. An attempt to explain the existence of the afterlife, drawing on many biblical anecdotes, as well as studying the physiology of humans and animals, electro-magnetism, etc. A chapter on the phenomena of occult forces details magnetic forces and healing, mind-reading, clairvoyance and dreams, as well as witchcraft, in brief. Phenomenal evidence is also cited, including the witnessing of spirits. D.W. Hull and his perhaps better known brother, Moses Hull, edited Hull's Crucible in the 1870s, both being proponents of spiritualism as well as sex reform. GOOD condition, ex-church library. Small sticker on the spine, with several provenance/library pastedowns on the inside front cover. General fading, minor soiling and minor to moderate scuffing to the covers. Some bumping and scuffing along the extremities. Ownership signature present in the interior. Offsetting and some glue stains to the inside front cover. Text block solid, with scattered pencil underlining, tick marks and notations throughout.
