Brown cloth with gilt titling and small owl illustrations, also in gilt. 213 pp. The second book by Sarah Orne Jewett, containing a collection tales for children, many involving children or animals. Sarah Orne Jewett was an author from Southern Maine, noted for her attention to detail in depicting New England country life, as well as to her depiction of characters and dialogue. GOOD condition. Slightly ex-library, with an oval blindstamp on the title page. No other library treatments present. General uneven minor fading to the covers, with minor to moderate scuffing, including a few heavier scuffs. Minor soiling. Cloth split along the entire front and rear hinge, with minor fraying. Minor chipping and loss of cloth to the head and tail of the spine. Corners bumped, frayed and worn. Previous owner's bookplate on the inside front cover. Text solid, with minor scattered soiling.
