A comprehensive gathering of poems, letters and annotations to various people, including Swedenborg, by William Blake, accompanied by many of his illustrations. These writings and illustrations document his artistic vision, both through his finished works and through his thoughts conveyed in his letters. William Blake was a British poet, artist and printmaker, overlooked during his lifetime, but now considered to be one of Britain's best artists. Blake created prophetic poetry and visual arts, often mixing words and images, and which perhaps led many of his contemporaries to consider him mad. Books in GOOD+ to VERY GOOD condition. Spines rather browned and foxed, with minor foxing to the page edges and endpapers. Volume two and three with moderate foxing to the endpapers. General fading to the covers. The Pencil Drawing volume has moderate to heavy foxing to the endpapers, with minor scattered foxing throughout, mostly along the fore edge. Pages intermittently unopened throughout. The tri-folds and slipcases all bear some scuffing, minor soiling and general fading/uneven darkening, most noticeable along the hinges. Leather spines of the slipcases with some scuffs and a few small chips missing. Faint dampstain/area of discoloration to the lower edge of the slipcase of volume 3. The slipcase on the drawing volume is rather mottled along the extremities.
