Paper covered boards. Xii, xviii, 354 pp plus 2 pages of ads. Printed in both the original French, with English translations following each letter. Primarily drawn from an express carrier intercepted by Allied forces on its way to Napoleon in Dresden from France, these letters offer insight into the working of the government of Napoleon and France. Included are letters from the King of Westphalia, the arch-chancellor, arch-treasurer, various military and police letters, as well as correspondence between various kings and queens of Europe. This includes the Queen of Naples, the Duke de Feltre, Count de Mosbourg, Prince Camille etc. FAIR condition, ex-library. Circular embossment and call numbers present on the title page, with a pastedown present at the rear. Several dampstains to the front cover, with general soiling and a few minor stains. Uneven fading. Extremities bumped and scuffed. Paper chipped and torn along the hinges, with a 1 inch area of loss near the foot of the spine. Interior binding cracked and separating at the half title, very tenuously attached by one thread. Text block solid with very minor scattered soiling. A few pages unopened, with a few chipped along the upper extremity.
