[Prepared by] Assistant Chief of Staff for Military Intelligence. Fort Shafter, T.H.: 1929. Headquarters Hawaiian Department. First edition, in wraps. This pamphlet consists of dictionary style entries giving place names (in Hawaiian) with their English meanings and locations, for locations around Hawaii. The main book contains many folk tales from Hawaii, as well as several black and white photos depicting landscapes and people. One image of a surfing contest is present. Bound in brown cloth with an illustration of an erupting volcano on the front cover. VERY GOOD condition with some scuffing and fading to the covers. Spine darkened. Very minor soiling. Extremities scuffed. Interior clean and solid with general darkening to the pages and a previous owner's bookplate on the inside front cover.
