A collection of essays by Beecher, including several against slavery: one titled The Nation's Duty to Slavery (originally preached in 1859 while John Brown was in prison awaiting trial), another titled Modes and Duties of Emancipation and another titled Church's Duty to Slavery. Bound in a horizontal wavy ribbed cloth, with minor decorations in blind. Title in gilt on the spine. In GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy fading to the covers and especially the spine. Some scuffing and minor soiling. Extremities with minor bumping and scuffing. The head and foot of the spine are pulled and frayed, with some loss of cloth in both areas, as well as along the very lower rear hinge. Binding solid although the hinges are a bit weak. Faint dampstain present in the upper 2 inches of the gutter and upper margin, affecting the upper left corner of the text until about page 100. Minor darkening to the pages. Solid copy of this work in GOOD condition.
