A reprint of the Life of Joseph Brant (published in 1838) but abridged and lacking appendices, although a first appearance in this form. These volumes form books No 167 and 168 of the family library series. Offering a history of the skirmishes along the border of the US during the Revolutionary War, with special focus on Joseph Brant and his role, as well as the role of Native Americans. Battles at Wyoming, Ticonderoga, Lake Champlain, campaigns in the southern US, etc. Both volumes in GOOD condition. Some minor scuffs to each volume, resulting in minor losses of the boards, with a noticeable chip to volume 2. Extremities scuffed and worn, with loss of boards along the edges, some loss to the spine heads and feet, and heavy loss along the rear fore edge of the first volume. Minor soiling and fading to the covers and spines. Texts of both volumes are clean, with minor foxing throughout, moderate to the preliminaries of each. Minor darkening to the pages. Previous owner's shelf location in pen on the ffep of each volume, as well as signature in pencil on the title pages. Faint hint of smoke odor. Solid attractive copies of this work in GOOD condition.
