no date but believed late 1800's. While no publisher is given it does state: "herausgegeben von dem Sonntagschul und tractatverein der Evang. Gemeinschaft," at the bottom of the title page, indicating this was probably published for Sunday schools of the Evangelical Association, an organization of German descent peoples in America. Original cloth. 169,22 pages. With several black and white illustrations throughout, including someone being stoned, a child drinking from what appears to be a liquor bottle, and a man in shackles in a prison cell, among others. A work apparently geared toward children giving examples of divine justice in order to promote proper Christian behavior. With a parable about Jesus Christ. Close to burgundy colored cloth with decorations and ruling in blind on the cover, with what appears to be copper colored gilt work on the spine. In VERY GOOD condition. EX-HISTORICAL SOCIETY, bearing the bookplate of the Western Reserve Historical Society (with call letters and persons who donated this volume) on the inside front cover. Purple oval society stamp on the front endpaper and title page, with call numbers also present in ink on the title page and page 99. Minor general fading to the covers with a few small areas of scuffing. A bit heavier fading to the spine. Minor edge wear. Interior solid and clean.
