Drawing from film, interviews, official documents and other sources, this work provides a thorough recounting of the efforts undertaken by American crewmen of B-17 bombers and the P-47 Thunderbolts that escorted them in this World War II battle. A first person account of the author's service in the air force of Japan during World War II, recalling his many missions and battles among the islands of the Pacific Ocean, as well as his subsequent capture and return home. Kawato was considered an Ace in the Japanese Air Force, flying a Zero and responsible for downing many aircraft and attacks on ships. He eventually moved to the United States after the war. VERY GOOD condition. Minor toning and edgewear to the covers.

Photo album from a US Soldier in World War II. Perhaps a member of the 26th Infantry, or Yankee, Division. 21 leaves with photos, ranging from 2-5 black and white photos per page. The first half depicts posed full body portraits of the presumed owner/subject of the album around the barracks or in tents. With a few shots of items being transported across a small river, a shot of a downed plane. Many shots with the subject in a somewhat dress uniform, with others in combat type uniform. Several loose photos bear a location, Kalsching, Czech (Czech Republic) with dates of July, 1945, or a bit later. The last half of the book features family photos with the subject in uniform. The 26th Infantry was based out of Massachusetts, crossing West to East from France to the Czech Republic during World War II. VERY GOOD condition. Light fading soiling and edgewear to the album. Photos and interior clean.

no date, presumed mid 1940s. Illustrated wraps, with an aircraft engine on the front cover and a black and white photo of a bomber airplane and airmen standing at attention. Folio. 32 pp., including covers. Black and white photos throughout. A pictorial look at Chanute Field, a technical training school for soldiers then in the Army Air Force. This includes a look at combat training, mechanical and other training involved in maintaining aircraft and ground facilities, as well as documentation of entertainment and other aspects of a soldier's life. Many allusions to fighting in World War II throughout, as well as photos of various aircraft. Also present is a two page handwritten letter on Army Air Forces letterhead, dated October 21, 1944, and written from a soldier to his mother and father. This letter describes life at the camp, the P.X.s and the author's scheme (with another soldier) to get a new field jacket. GOOD+ condition. Minor soiling, fading and wrinkling to the book, with light fading and toning in the interior.

Contains about 20 postcards, some color illustrated, some real photo, depicting locations in Alabama, Mississippi, Chicago and San Francisco; about 50 or so black and white photos of various sizes and formats; and various pieces of ephemera, from beer labels (from Australia), money and military passes. The photos range from posed photos of the subject, photos of barracks, several of the departure of a 3 star (General?) on a plane, photo of presumed Japanese prisoners, a dead (Japanese?) soldier, a downed Japanese plane, photo of an anti-aircraft post, to photos of the residents of the Philippines, etc. GOOD condition. Covers creased, with old tape repairs. General fading, minor soiling and scuffing. Some pages chipped along the extremities. One photo dampstained and bearing surface loss.

This includes some brief history of the 8th Air Force, as well as recounting its use of precision bombing in Germany, and efforts in Japan. This includes photos of bombed areas in Japan, photos of some of the bombers, including the B-29 Super-fortress perhaps for which this journal was named. The 8th US Air Force was established in 1942 and primarily operated in the European theater during World War II, eventually establishing operations in Japan after the end of the war in Europe. GOOD condition. Horizontal fold crease present. Minor soiling, staining and wrinkling to the piece.

World War II era Scrapbook from Charles (Charlie) Palmer. Green clothbound scrapbook housed in a brown paper covered slipcase. Folio. Approximately 36 pages used in the book, with many more unused. With a few envelopes of photo negatives, some large in size. The scrapbook contains various identification and membership cards for Charles Palmer, as well as items pertaining to his service in World War II. Serving as a private first class, it appears Palmer was an Official War Photographer (ID card present indicating such). Newsletters, paper clippings, meal cards and other paper ephemera associated with his service are present, including a letter that indicates he was nominated or received a Soldier's Medal for his actions in documenting a ship that had exploded in a port. An official letter regarding his request to find the grave of a fellow fallen soldier is included, as well as various military bulletins, photos and newspaper clippings of people, comics, theater tickets and other related type of items (from Italy) etc. also present. Some of the 3x4 inch negatives appear to depict soldiers or military type scenes, although this is hard to tell for certain, while the rest of the negatives are portraits of people. VERY GOOD condition, with minor fading and edgewear. Some fading and minor soiling to the slipcase.
