First edition. Gray cloth in unclipped jacket. 246 pp including index. With black and white photos, as well as a section of color photos. Appears SIGNED by the author on the first endpaper, dated 1980. A detailed and comprehensive look at the craft of fly fishing rods in the United States, proceeding chronologically and geographically and examining the work of Samuel Phillippe, Hiram Leonard, E.F. Payne, E.W. Edwards, Nathaniel Uslan and many others. Keane was a noted collector of fly fishing rods and gear, as well as a staff member at the Museum of American Fly Fishing. GOOD jacket on a VERY GOOD book. HEAVY chipping, tearing and loss along the upper jacket edge, with a 2 inch piece of the upper spine MISSING. Several creases along this extremity. Minor to moderate chipping and tearing along the lower edge, with a 3/4 inch chip missing from the foot of the spine. Minor fading and rubbing to the jacket. Minor fading, rubbing and soiling to the book. Interior clean and solid.

no date, presumed circa 1963 based on allusions to the recent acquisition of the Silaflex Company by Browning, which occurred in 1963. Photo illustrated wraps. Quarto. 27 pp. Color photos throughout. A catalog of various fiberglass Silaflex fishing rods available from Browning, discussing the specifications and noteworthy aspects of various models, ranging from backpacker lines to those used at sea. With a short section of fishing/casting tips in the rear. The Silaflex company was launched in 1949, producing fiberglass rods, being acquired by Browning Arms in 1963 (Larson: A Documentary History of Sila-Flex Fishing Rods). GOOD+ condition. Minor fading, toning and wrinkling to the piece. Faint musty odor when opened.
