To which is added an alphabetical list of the officers killed and wounded, from 15th to 26th June, 1815, and the total loss of each regiment, with an enumeration of the Waterloo honours and privileges, conferred upon the men and officers, and lists of regiments, etc. entitled thereto. Illustrated by a panoramic sketch of the field of battle, and a plan of the position and movements, with those of the Prussians, traced. By a Near Observer. Stated fifth edition. Half-vellum binding with patterned red cloth covers. Gilt decorations along the spine, with title and date set against red backgrounds. Cxliv, 140 pp. With an extra leaf cxxv*, cxxvi*, preceding the other leaf also bearing these page numbers. Text is continuous and complete in that section. Collated and complete. With two fold out maps and a large fold out panoramic illustration of Waterloo, all colored. As the title states, a detailed account of the Battle of Waterloo, drawn from various sources, and paying special attention to the Duke of Wellington and Napoleon. With a large bookplate from William Hillier, 4th Earl of Onslow, a British politician and former Governor of New Zealand. Also present is an ownership signature from George Augustus Sala, perhaps the Italian-English writer and journalist. In GOOD condition. Covers slightly bowed, with minor soiling and darkening to the vellum. Cloth worn along the lower front edge, with some loss, perhaps due to insect exposure. Cloth faded. Text block solid with scattered minor foxing and soiling throughout, as well as a few minor pencil notations. Some notations regarding provenance on a rear endpaper. Frontis map with some foxing and darkening, cropped a little close at the lower margin. The Fold out panorama also bears some foxing, and has extensive paper and cloth tape repairs to the reverse, as well as creasing present. The last map has a 2 inch diagonal tear near the edge attached to the binding, with minor foxing and ghosting, as well as pencil notations to its blank side.

Jacket TORN in two along the front hinge, with several other large tears and a few chips along this tear. Minor chipping and tearing along the jacket extremities. Some toning, minor soiling and scuffing to the jacket. Minor soiling and uneven fading to the book. Spine faded. Interior clean and solid.

Half leather with marbled boards, page edges and endpapers. 548, 520 pages. With 16 portrait plates between both volumes. A two volume edition of these memoirs recounting the life of Napoleon Bonaparte as witnessed by Madame Junot and her family-chronicling both his early life and military career and ruler of France. Laure Junot, the wife of the French general Jean-Andoche Junot, was known for her caustic wit and extravagant lifestyle. Spending most of her time in aristocratic circles, she eventually upset Napoleon with her circle of friends and commentary. These memoirs were written under the supervision of Balzac, her lover from 1828 on (Wikipedia). FAIR/GOOD condition. Pages 543-548 plus the rear endpapers are DETACHED and laid in in volume 1. General fading and minor to moderate uneven scuffing to the covers. Heavy scuffing to the leather along the extremities. Minor soiling and spotting to the covers. Leather chipped at the heads of the spines, with some loss. Leather band missing from the upper compartment of volume 2, with the a band torn and partially missing from a compartment on the spine of volume 1. Interiors solid (with the above noted exception) with minor browning to the paper. Some foxing and minor staining to the portrait plates. Minor dampstaining to the first several pages of volume 2, with very light dampstaining along the fore edge of a few pages scattered throughout. Previous owner's signatures present on the title pages.

Green cloth decorated on the front cover in blind with bees. Printed by the De Vinne Press. xv, 107 pp. An English language translation of two folk tales of Napoleon, one from Russian sources (Napoleonder) and the other from the French, by Honore de Balzac. The Russian tale, appearing in print in 1901 (according to the introduction) imagines God and angels plotting ways to punish the wicked peoples of Earth, with Satan advocating the use of Napoleon to war on the people. In this tale, Napoleon originated as a doll made by Satan, inadvertently brought to life by God. The other tale is drawn from Honore de Balzac's work, 'Country Doctor.' GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy fading and browning along the extremities. Light soiling and scuffing. Dampstain present along the lower book extremity. Interior clean and solid with a light dampstain in the lower gutter of the first few pages.

Bound in modern blue cloth. xiv, 9-435 pp, plus 12 pages of ads in the front. A detailed account of the reign of Napoleon, including his military actions in Spain, Italy, and Russia, etc. This includes personal accounts by the author of his trip to Russia with Napoleon and his army, as well as the retreat. Also included is a brief mention of Robert Fulton discussing his steamboat invention to Napoleon. De Bausset was a prefect in the Imperial House, serving Napoleon in his palace. GOOD condition, re-bound in modern blue cloth. Gilt titling on the spine. Some spotting to the front cover. General fading, minor soiling and scuffing to the covers and extremities. A few small tape repairs to the margins of the ads at the front. A few pages of the ads cropped a bit in the margins, as well as rather browned. The rest of the text is clean with very minor scattered foxing.

Full brown leather with a gilt emblem and extensive decorations in blind. vi, 530; 394; 48 (appendix) total pages. With 22 hand colored portraits, all present as called for, as well as many black and white illustrations throughout. Illustrations after designs by Horace Vernet, the French painter noted for his depictions of battle scenes. A biography of Napoleon, primarily focusing on his military campaigns and actions as emperor, including the campaigns in Italy, his conquest of Egypt, the Campaign of Poland, the battle of Austerlitz, his campaign to Russia, his eventual defeat and exile, Waterloo, etc. With an appendix on the exhumation and reburial of Napoleon, featuring three colored plates depicting the vehicle in which he was transported. GOOD condition. Moderate fading to the leather along the extremities, with heavy fading to the spine. Minor to moderate scuffing, a bit heavier to the spine. A crease present to the leather across the center front cover, appears to be from the binding process. Interior solid with scattered minor to moderate foxing throughout, as well as scattered soiling. General light browning to the paper.

Half leather with marbled boards. 383 pp. With two fold out maps (one of the Campaign of Italy, and the other of St. Helena), as well as many portraits and a few illustrations of battles or houses. The third volume of this work, with this containing chapters on Napoleon's campaign in Italy, the campaign in Russia, musings on France and French politics, other accounts of battles and campaigns, etc. Emmanuel Augustin Dieudonne Joseph, or Comte De Las Cases, was a noted French writer and atlas maker, who accompanied Napoleon in his exile at St. Helena. During this time he took notes of the conversations and day to day life of Napoleon in exile, publishing them upon his eventual return from the island. While a popular account, portions of it were probably exaggerated or concocted. (see Wikipedia). GOOD condition. Rear cover splitting and starting to detach along the upper hinge. Heavy scuffing to the covers, leather hinges and extremities. Minor soiling and general fading. Extremities rather bumped and worn. Leather very worn along the spine, with some flaking. Interior clean and solid. The map of the Campaign of Italy misfolded and sticking out from the text block.

A few maps and diagrams also present. ALL TEXT IN FRENCH. Two volumes containing the works of Comte De Las Cases and M.M. O'Meara who provided notable first person accounts of Napoleon in exile on St. Helena. O'Meara alleged mistreatment of Napoleon by the Sir Hudson Lowe. With illustrations by Nicolas Toussaint Charlet, a French designer and painter noted for his depictions of military scenes. GOOD condition. Both volumes with minor to moderate uneven scuffing to the covers, a few heavier scuffs present to the leather and along the hinges. Minor general fading and soiling, with offsetting to both volumes. Extremities bumped and scuffed. Leather split along the upper front hinge of volume one. Interiors solid with minor to moderate scattered foxing throughout, a bit heavier to some of the illustrated pages. Uneven browning to the paper.

First published in French in 1891, these memoirs provide a firsthand account of Baron Marcellin De Marbot, serving in the French Army against Prussia and Russia in 1806-07, during the Peninsular War and again against Russia in 1812, earning distinction for his leadership. After Napoleon he served in campaigns in Algiers. He was also remembered in Napoleon's will, perhaps for his comments in his early pamphlets that Napoleon viewed favorably. GOOD condition. Moderate fading and uneven darkening to the covers. Light rippling to the cloth along the front hinge of volume 1. Some soiling, minor scuffing and edgewear. Interiors solid with toning to the paper. Interior hinges cracked and beginning to separate in both volumes. Two different bookplates present in the interiors, one armorial from Thomas Barbour and another from a Melville E. Stone.

This includes a look at the French military, Napoleon in Corsica, the siege of Toulon, Napoleon's maritime expedition, Napoleon in Itay and Egypt, his time in Paris, etc. GOOD condition. Heavy scuffing to the leather along the spines, hinges and corners, with several small areas of superficial loss and some splitting/loss at the corners. General fading to the covers. Minor scuffing to the boards. Interiors clean and solid with moderate browning to the paper. The fold out maps all bear minor tearing, with one being TORN in half. Some misfolding/minor creasing to the fold outs.
