Reddish cloth in unclipped jacket. Folio. 128 pp. Full page color reproductions of maps throughout. A printing of various maps from the early to mid 1800s of various towns and cities of the British Isles. With maps from various makers and of cities such as Dublin, London, Birmingham, Canterbury, Oxford, Bedford, Exeter, Norwich and many others. Historical and descriptive text accompanies each map. VERY GOOD condition. Heavy fading to the jacket spine. Minor soiling, rubbing and edgewear to the jacket. Light fading and edgewear to the book.

June, 1863. Full calf leather. 836 pp., plus ads. 4 fold out maps/charts present, plus a few small in text illustrations. With a frontispiece map. The nineteenth edition of this exhaustive description of the Atlantic coast of North America and the northern part of South America, including islands in the Caribbean. An appendix glued to the reverse of the preface page, dated to July of 1863. GOOD condition. Heavy scuffing and bumping to the extremities and spine, with minor to moderate scuffing to the covers themselves. Minor soiling to the covers. Uneven darkening and fading. Hinges cracked along the exterior and beginning to separate, making the covers somewhat tenuously attached to the text block. Text block solid, with minor to moderate scattered foxing throughout. Minor scattered soiling and staining. A few pages with large dog-ear creases.

A history of early mapping of America, examining early maps and portolan sea charts and identifying place names and early discoveries of the Americas and associated islands. GOOD condition, ex-library. Call numbers on the slipcase, as well as in the interior of the book. Gift inscription to the library present. General fading, minor soiling, scuffing and edgewear to the extremities. Very light scattered soiling in the interior. Slipcase rather soiled, scuffed and worn.

Believed to be from the 1701 edition of 'A system of Geography' that was issued in London in 1701. A single leaf, pages 331/332. Measures approximately 12 1/4 inches tall by 7 1/2 inches wide. With a 6 3/4 by 7 1/4 inch map of Denmark on page 331. Engraved by Herman Moll. With the beginning descriptive text on the history of Denmark, although not complete. Herman Moll was a noted cartographer and engraver, located in England, although perhaps originally from the Netherlands or Germany. Initially working for others, he started to work on his own in the late 1690's, with his exacting style serving to influence other cartographers (Wikipedia). GOOD condition. Minor browning to the paper, a bit heavier along the extremities. Small tear and crease near the lower right corner, with a shallow half moon 1 inch piece missing from the upper left extremity. Small faint dampstain along the upper edge. A few minor creases at the corner. Map a bit offcenter.

Front cover and all pages up to and including the contents page DETACHED. Most of the leather along the backstrip MISSING. General minor to moderate uneven fading to the covers. Some soiling and scuffing. Extremities bumped and scuffed with the leather worn. Text block intact and solid (with the above exceptions noted) with minor scattered soiling.
