Paper peeled away and missing from the lower left front and right rear cover, with some other smaller areas of loss. Extremities very bumped and scuffed. Leather spine very deteriorated, very worn and fragile, with some loss. Faint dampstaining affecting the upper left part of the first several pages. Minor scattered foxing and staining throughout. Text block intact but weakening. Last leaf MISSING.

Oblong format. 88 pp. A printing of words and music to 'Esther,' a work reflecting on the Biblical tale of Esther, recalling her efforts to save Mordecai and the Jewish people in the Persian empire. William Bradbury was a 19th century American musician, composing hymns and other religious works. POOR/FAIR condition. Rear cover DETACHED but present. Front cover torn along the hinge and somewhat tenuously attached. Heavy chipping, tearing and creasing along the extremities of both wrappers. Moderate soiling, browning and spotting to the wrappers. Several dampstains to the wrappers. Minor to moderate scattered foxing throughout, with some soiling and minor staining. Several pages creased or curled at the upper corners.

Decorative color half title present (or perhaps an original front wrap). 81 pp. The musical score and lyrics to La Navarraise, an opera based on a short story 'La Cigarette' by Jules Claretie, and set in Spain during the Carlist War of 1874. The libretto was written by Clariete and Henri Cain, with the music written by the noted 19th century French composer, Jules Massenet. The opera was first performed in London in 1894. GOOD condition. Spine and hinges reinforced along the exterior with black binding tape, a bit heavy-handedly. General fading, with minor to moderate uneven soiling to the covers. A few small dark ink stains/streaks to the front cover. Minor scuffing and edgewear. Interior hinges reinforced with tape. Several oval ownership/bookseller stamps on the first few endpapers and title page. Text block solid and toned.

A single issue of this newspaper consisting primarily of advertisements and promotional copy for musicians, instrument makers and music, mostly sheet music or books of music. This includes many small reproductions of musical scores (single pages). The last page contains a story by Pauline Colyar "Cely's Tin Wedding." written in African-American dialect and describing customs surrounding the tin wedding of African Americans. With some racial stereotypes. It appears this was reprinted from the Youth's Companion. GOOD condition. Moderate general browning. Large faint dampstain to the upper half of the paper. Minor staining and soiling.

Paper covered boards with a leather spine. 248 pp. A publication containing the libretto and score for 'Der Apotheker und der Doctor,' a comic opera that first premiered in 1786. Composed by Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf was an Austrian composer and violinist, being an important figure in classical music and composing. This opera was one of his most popular works. GOOD condition. Heavy scuffing and fading to the covers. Very heavy bumping, scuffing and peeling along the extremities, with the corners rounded. Leather very worn along the spine. Previous owner's bookplate on the inside front cover. A last name, in a largish ornate script, on the title page. Text block solid. A few stray pencil notes, lines and markings present.
