148 pages. Does not contain the memoir, which appeared in the previous volumes. Gaining some popularity again due to an interest in early feminist writings, Barbauld was a noted children's author, poet and essayist who influenced many of the Romantic poets of the early 1800's. This volume collects the following pieces, among others: on riddles, the king in his castle, on female studies, the rich and the poor-a dialogue, the river and the brook-a fable, on the origin and progress of Romance-writing etc. Bound in full brown leather with title on the spine. In GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy scuffing to the covers and extremities. Uneven fading and minor darkening with minor soiling to the covers. Corners bumped and rounded. Spine pulled with a small inch split at the top front hinge. Spine faded and rather scuffed. Text solid with mostly minor foxing throughout, a little heavier to the endpapers. Corner of the first two endpapers torn. Faint dampstain to the first endpapers in the same locale. Last endpaper creased. Text clean and very readable. Solid copy in GOOD condition.

A short work questioning the authorship of the work of Shakespeare, asserting that it was perhaps Edward de Vere, the Seventeenth Earl of Oxford, based on historical records and what was then known about the lives of Shakespeare and de Vere. Benezet was an educator noted for creating innovative teaching methods that broke from a tradition of rote learning. GOOD condition. Moderate uneven darkening, with some offsetting, to the wraps. Mostly minor soiling, with a small area of staining at the top left edge. Light scuffing and edgewear. Faint diagonal crease affecting the front cover and first several pages. Interior clean and solid.

This issue features a poem by Tom Clark, a look at Kerouac and William Burroughs, Merrimac vs. Monticello-an article by John Montgomery, who appeared in three of Kerouac's novels, etc. In VERY GOOD condition with moderate browning along the extremities. Very minor bumping and creasing also along the extremities.

With illustrations. Articles of travels, the fighting forces of Germany and others are present. GOOD condition. Heavy browning to the wraps. Heavy chipping and tearing, with loss, along the lower extremity. 'Princeton Univ' written in large letters (in pencil) across the front. Some soiling and minor staining. Federzoni was a member of the Italian Facist Party and served under Mussolini. He later signed an agenda against Mussolini and was sentenced to death, being pardoned in 1947. In GOOD condition with mostly minor soiling, minor creasing and general fading to the the wraps. Minor scuffing, creasing and a few small tears present along the lower and fore edge extremities. Interior solid with many pages unopened. Scattered minor foxing.

An expansive history of English literature spanning from the 400s AD to the 19th century, covering Beowulf, work by Chaucer, Milton, Johnson, etc. to work by Dickens and others. With many facsimiles of letters, color illustrations, facsimile of early printed books and manuscript leaves, etc. Provenance: All volumes bear the bookplate of Charles Value Chapin, a noted American pioneer in the field of public health and the study of diseases and bacteria. Much of his work focused on the spread of disease and educating the public about germs and bacteria (Wikipedia). GOOD condition. General scuffing, fading and edgewear, with the cloth frayed and pulled at the heads and tails of the spine. Long horizontal gouge in the cloth at the top of the spine of volume 2. Interior front hinge cracked, with the cover starting to separate. One plate DETACHED in volume 1.
