A pulp novel featuring Cad Metti, a woman detective and her exploits with Dudie Dunne in foiling a counterfeit operation. FAIR condition, lacking the wraps. Moderate browning to the paper, with offsetting along the extremities of the rear blank page. Minor soiling. Minor chipping and tearing along the fore edge. Interior solid and clean, with a faint dampstain in the fore edge margin of the last half of the book.

Illustrated blue wraps. 139 pp., plus 22 pages of ads in the rear. While the title page give a date of 1893, this work, part of the Calumet Series, is dated October 6, 1894 on the front wrap. A dime novel by Harlan Page Halsey, featuring the adventures of his popular detective, Old Sleuth. GOOD condition. Heavy chipping and tearing along the wrapper extremities, with loss in several areas. General uneven fading and some soiling to the wraps. Minor scuffing and creasing. Interior solid with moderate to heavy browning to the paper.

First edition. Black cloth. No jacket. 250 pages. A hard-boiled style mystery. GOOD condition. General fading to the covers with minor to moderate soiling and scuffing. Corners and head and foot of the spine worn, with minor chipping to the cloth at the spine extremities and a one inch split along the upper rear hinge. Several ownership signatures present on the first endpapers, with many math problems worked out on the rear endpapers. Rear hinge cracked. Minor toning to the paper. Scattered minor soiling to the pages, with some faint dog ear creases. Fore edge of page 73 with a few small chips and tears, with some associated creasing.

London Chatto and Windus 1900 no First Edition Cloth Fair No Jacket 
First edition. Original blue cloth with an illustration of a woman riding a bike. 255pp plus a 32 pages of publisher's ads in the rear. With a one page testimonial for the books of the Rule-Of-Thumb detective. A collection of short mysteries, introducing Dora Myrl, who, in future works, becomes married to Bodkin's Rule of Thumb Detective, Paul Beck. In FAIR condition with a moderate to heavy accumulation of wear. Moderate uneven fading to the covers, with mostly minor soiling, a bit heavier to the rear. Moderate scuffing to the cloth. Heavy scuffing along the extremities, with the corners bumped and frayed, as well as fraying present to the cloth in several other places. Spine is very worn, being rather browned, and with heavy fraying and tearing to the cloth at the head and foot of the spine, suffering minor loss. Cloth split along the back hinge, with some minor tearing, with the front hinge split in several small sections. Two small areas of dark staining near the foot of the spine, with a small area of heavy fading, also in the same area. Interior front hinge is weak but intact. First front endpaper torn along most of the hinge. Text block solid with scattered soiling throughout, as well as very minor scattered foxing. Binding cracked at pages 48/49. Small number in pencil on the first page of text, with letters added, in pencil to the heading on one page. A few pages with dog ear creases or minor loss at their upper corners.

Heavy browning to the cloth along the extremities and spine. Minor soiling, with several spots of staining to the front and rear cover. Minor scuffing. Extremities bumped, with some fraying to the cloth at the corners and spine tips. Interior solid. Moderate browning to the paper. A few old tape scars along the fore edge of the inside front cover.

Minor chipping and tearing to the extremities of the first and last pages. Text block solid.

First edition with publisher’s logo on copyright page and no other printings given. Hardcover lacking a dust jacket. This is Ford’s second book. In GOOD+ condition with three faded spots of dampstaining to the front cover and a section of the same sort of light faded dampstaining to the rear cover, running the length of the book and about a 1/3 of the way out from the rear hinge. These are both faint and do not affect the text in any way. Minor soiling to the covers and general fading. Light edgewear. Top page edges with light soiling. Slight forward lean to the book. Inner text solid with minor sporadic soiling along the page fore edges. Previous owner’s signature on ffep. Still a nice copy of this hard to find work in GOOD+ condition.
