no date, presumed late 1800s. Greenish/gold illustrated cloth. Elephant folio. 50 color plates mounted on thick card paper, each plate measuring 9 ½ by 6 ¼ inches. All plates loose. With a short foreword, in French. A collection of prints after the watercolor paintings of Jean Baes, a 19th century Belgian architect and artist, depicting various towers and church tops in Belgium. POOR condition. Front cover DETACHED, with spine cloth hanging on to the rear cover. Moderate scuffing, uneven fading and darkening to the covers. Minor soiling and staining. Heavy scuffing to the cloth along the extremities. All plates and pages LOOSE and separated from each other. Heavy chipping, browning and loss to the card stock pages, with all paper being rather brittle and flaking easily with handling. Color plates still bright and clean. A rough copy of this work in poor condition.

First edition. Bluish green cloth hard covers. All page edges gilt.200 pages plus a map in the rear and a few pages of ads. With black and white illustrations, many full page and many in text, by Randolph Caldecott throughout. A travelogue recounting the scenery, towns, buildings and people of the Brittany region of France. In FAIR condition. Minor to moderate rubbing/scuffing to the covers. Mostly minor soiling. Minor fading. Extremities with scuffing and bumping to the corners and some fraying/scuffing to the head and foot of the spine. Interior solid with the binding cracked at the signature beginning at page 81-96. This signature was loose but has been REPAIRED with archival glue. Scattered mostly minor foxing throughout, moderate to a few pages.

This includes The Battle of Trafalgar; Entrance to the Zuyder See; The Giudecca, Venice; Lake of Como. GOOD condition. Heavy toning to the wraps, with offsetting, scattered staining and some soiling. Wrapper extremities chipped, with some tears and minor loss. Some scuffing. General toning and minor soiling to the etchings.

No publisher, place or date, perhaps circa 1882. Paper covered boards, illustrated, with leather spine and corners. Rear cover bears ads. Oblong folio. 24 leaves, printed on single sides only. A collection of various humorous and satirical cartoons and sketches on different subjects, by George Cruikshank. These span the dates 1828-1832. OCLC records indicate "Originally published by Cruikshank and followed by 'many different printings ... an attempt [by] the artist to become his own publisher and thus derive continued royalties by reissuing earlier works' (cf. Richard A. Vogeler. Graphic works of George Cruikshank, p. 142). Originally appeared in 4 parts, in 1828, 1829, 1831 and 1832." George Cruikshank was an English illustrator, known for his caricatures of English subjects and social life, as well as his illustrations for the work of Charles Dickens. GOOD condition. Heavy uneven toning and darkening to the covers, with some soiling and minor stains. Heavy bumping and scuffing along the extremities, with flaking and loss to the leather. Mostly minor scattered foxing and soiling in the interior.

5 Doolittle, Bev Hide and Seek Suite
No Place Greenwich Workshop 1990 no Limited Unbound Fine 
Folio of 6 lithograph prints reproduced from the original paintings of Bev Doolittle. #4139 of an edition of 25,000. Lettered a through f, with f bearing the artist's signature in pencil. Lithographs brown and white, with paper guards between each, housed in a gray folder decorated on the front in gilt. Houses in a large oblong clamshell style case, bound in brown cloth. This is housed in original Styrofoam and shipping box, which is also numbered with the edition. Each lithograph measures 15 by 10 ¼ inches. With original documentation slip tipped in, discussing the artist and the prints. Conceived of as a large work of 24 images, these are the first six of the series, depicting brown and white horses that blend into the background. Bev Doolittle is a California based artist, known for her images depicting nature and the American West. Hide and Seek is perhaps one of her best known works. Lithographs in FINE condition, with no visible wear. Light bumping along the paper folder extremities. Cloth case with some minor general fading and minor rubbing.

Gray-blue cloth with illustration and titling in gilt. Folio. Xxii, 191 pp. Black and white illustrations by Gustave Dore throughout. Originally published in 1872, this 1890 edition provides an illustrated look at the social life in the various sections of London, depicted by Gustave Dore and accompanied by commentary by Jerrold Blanchard, with critics of the time noting that it seemed to focus on the poverty present in London (see Wikipedia). Areas included were the docks, the Newgate Jail, around Westminster, etc. GOOD condition. Covers faded, scuffed and soiled, with some areas of staining along the upper front cover. Cloth frayed and worn at the corners and tips of the spine. Corners bumped. Interior solid, with scattered soiling and general toning to the paper. A few very small dampstains to the extremities of a few pages.

A somewhat humorous look at an episode in the life of Mr. Pipp, chronicling his travels abroad with his wife and daughters, told through illustrations accompanied by short captions. By Charles Dana Gibson, the noted American illustrator, perhaps best known for his 'Gibson Girl,' being his depiction of the modern woman at the beginning of the 20th century. This volume features many Gibson Girl style illustrations throughout. GOOD condition. Minor to moderate spotting, staining soiling and foxing to the covers. Uneven darkening. Minor scuffing. Some bumping and wear to the extremities. Interior solid, with minor scattered foxing throughout. A few pages with small tears to their lower edges.

A short work introducing the Reproduction Series from Harvard, citing a need and desire to offer various rare or interesting illustrations to the public. Hofer discusses the use of the collotype process in reproducing the illustrations, as well as the hand-coloring of the illustrations. Included in this piece are three collotype reproduced pieces: a sculptor's drawing for a frieze by Pietro di Martino titled 'Lombardo;" a hand-colored piece titled ' Regra Statutos…da Ordem de Santiago' from Portugal, Herman de Kempis, 1509 (hand colored as the original was done, with noted imperfections); a hand-colored aquatint study of a fruit drawn by Turpin and engraved by Bouquet, from France ca. 1800. In GOOD to VERY GOOD condition with light creasing, fading and offsetting to the covers. Minor soiling. Interior clean and solid.

Inspired by the Native American concept of the Sacred Circle, this work is a collection of Bev Doolittle's art accompanied by the poems and text of Elise Maclay. Bev Doolittle is a California based artist, known for her images depicting nature and the American West. FINE book in a VERY GOOD+ slipcase. No visible wear to the book. Light wearing away of the gilt on the slipcase. Two small, deep scuffs to the upper edge of the case. A hint of soiling to the rear of the case.

A printing of the flower paintings of Pierre-Joseph Redoute, originally published in the early 1800s, that served to document many different types of flowers, not just those from the family Liliaceae. With an introduction documenting the life of Redoute, as well as explaining the importance of flower painting to both art and science. Also present are descriptions of each plate in the rear. Pierre-Joseph Redoute was a French painter from the late 1700s, early 1800s, perhaps best known for his work with flowers. VERY GOOD condition. Minor fading, bumping, rubbing, soiling and edgewear to the jacket. Minor fading and edgewear to the book.
