Written in a sympathetic tone and seemingly in an effort to provide a positive view of the country of China (from the vantage of the United States). Jones uses Confucius' philosophies on law and government to demonstrate China's contributions to the world, as well as mentioning its industry and dispelling misconceptions of Chinese culture as misconstrued in San Francisco and other places. Jones also alludes to US imperialism in regard to China. Jenkin Lloyd Jones was a leader of the All Souls Unitarian Church in Chicago, as well as an ardent pacifist. FAIR condition. Text block DETACHED from the wrappers. Wrappers split and torn along the spine, with a few minor tears along the extremities. General browning and minor soiling. Rear cover with some dark scuffs.

The New Gita is in NEAR FINE condition with light bumping to the corners, very light edgewear and very light fading to the spine. This book is a translation of one of the sections of the epic poem Mahabharata and contains many spiritual teachings. The Wayfarer is in VERY GOOD condition. Scuffing and fading to the front cover with some white speckles showing through. Spine a bit sunned. Light scuffing to the back cover. Inner text clean and solid. This is a companion text to the New Gita. Overall a nice set in VG/NEAR FINE condition.

Noyes founded the utopian community at Oneida, New York, espousing socialist ideals and communal living, including free love and multiple marriages, while also believing that one could live within Christian philosophies. In GOOD condition. Several large creases present, as well as many small wrinkles and creases along the extremities. Top page corners curled over. Very minor soiling and toning to the paper. One page printed slightly askew.

A short piece advocating meditation and prayer as a way to incorporate the restorative powers of sleep into the waking life, discussing planes of consciousness, perception and memory, as well as sleep. Vedanta is a branch of Hindu philosophy, drawing on yoga practice among other Hindu teachings. Sister Devamata was the first American disciple of Swami Paramananda, an Indian mystic who moved to the United States to become one of the first to teach Vedanta thought. GOOD condition. Large dark dampstain affecting the rear cover and last leaf of the text. Some browning and staining along the front cover edges. Vertical crease present, with some other minor creasing.

The Mazdaznan movement was a religious or spiritual movement founded in the 19th century by Otoman Zar-Adusht Ha'nish, drawing on Neo-Zoroastrian principles. VERY GOOD condition.
