Full leather. (16), 912, mmm-uuu 8. With an illustrated title page depicting a village/small city from a hillside. All text in German. The first part of Anton Friedrich Busching's geographical history/survey of Europe and Asia, with this being devoted to countries and regions such as Denmark, Spain, The Germanic states, England, Ireland, Hungary, Corsica, Prussia, Scotland, Switzerland, etc. This was one of the first works to use statistical geography and was perhaps one of the first of any scientific merit (Wikipedia). Anton Friedrich Busching was a German historian and educator, perhaps best known for his Erdbeschreibung. FAIR condition, ex-theological library. Small label at the foot of the spine. Library bookplate, a small label and oval ink stamp present on the interior. The leather binding does not cover the fore and upper edges, leaving the boards exposed when looking at those edges. Pages 289-294 MISSING. All others collated and present. Minor uneven fading, some soiling and scuffing present to the covers, with a few minor stains. Leather rather scuffed and chipped at the corners and upper and lower hinges, as well as the spine tips, with some minor loss. Minor splitting at the upper and lower hinges. A few faint cracks or creases to the leather along the backstrip. A first and last endpaper may be missing, although it is possible these were just partial endpapers used in the binding process. Some staining along the first and last endpaper extremities, perhaps from old glue used in binding. A few small holes and edgewear (tiny missing sections) the endpapers and title page, perhaps from insects. Also present are a few tiny wormholes in the upper corners of several pages.Text block solid, with some toning and very minor scattered foxing. An area of staining affects the upper portion of the first 60 or so pages. Stray pencil marks in the margins of some pages, with a few notes on a rear endpaper. Page edges rather soiled and stained.

Stated fourth edition. Printed wraps. 83 pp. All maps present. A lesson book for children on geography and astronomy, divided by continents for each chapter. This includes North America, South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia, although separate chapters for Australia and Antarctica are not present. Australia depicted as New Holland, with Hawaii depicted as the Sandwich Islands. Each chapter provides a brief history and description of the region it pertains to, noting that parts of Africa are sources for slaves. Jacob Abbott Cummings was a Boston area schoolteacher and publisher (see Wikipedia). GOOD condition. 2 inch piece missing from the lower left front cover. No spine wrapper present. Moderate browning to the piece. Foxing and soiling present throughout, with some staining. Large faint dampstain present throughout. Corners curled and creased. A few names in ink at the front. Faint pencil brackets scattered throughout the text.

Grayish cloth with a color illustration on the front cover, with an inset illustration of the Earth as viewed from space. 531 pp. With illustrations and a few fold out charts throughout, as well as a fold out star chart for Northern and Middle Europe at the rear cover. ALL TEXT IN GERMAN. A general scientific work describing the geography and astromony of Earth and the surrounding solar system, discussing the planets and other objects, as well as earth. GOOD condition. Uneven fading. Heavy darkening to the spine. Dark smudges to the rear cover, with some general soiling. Minor scuffing and bumping to the extremities. Some toning to the paper in the interior.

With a few full page color maps, some small black and white maps and photos. In GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy soiling and scuffing to the boards. Corners bumped and spine pulled. Some foxing to the first and last pages, with very minor sporadic foxing found in the text. Moderate soiling to the first and last few pages. There is a slight musty odor when the book is opened but there does not appear to be any evidence of bio wear. This book discusses the various geopolitical, economic and social climates in European countries around the turn of the 20th century. In GOOD condition.
