Full title: Philosophia Rationalis Nov-Antiqua. Sive Disputationes Selectae, in Logicam et Metaphysicam Aristotelis. Cujus Antiquae Sententiae, Sicut et D. Thomae plerumque noviter elucidantur, accurate fulciuntur; & ab impugnationibus praefertim recentibus, vindicantur. Opus in IV. Tomos Divisum, Quorum I. Logicam & Metaphysicam, II & III Physicam, & IV Ethicam seu Philosophiam () Tomus Primus. Full vellum with yapp edges. 11 by 7 inches wide. (A)8, (B)6, (C)4 1-368, (1) 3-224 (1). Collated and complete textually, although uncertain as to how many endpapers should be present. The first three signatures are not paginated with letters A, B, and C, instead given as t, tt and ttt. Double columned text with decorative initials at chapter beginnings, as well as tailpieces at several chapter ends. Believed to the first volume of four, based on title and OCLC records. All text in Latin. Joseph Saenz De Aguirre (Jose Saenz D'Aguirre) [1630-1699] was a cardinal and Spanish Benedictine responsible for several philosophical and thelogical works. In this, De Aguirre provides an examination and defense of the logic and metaphysics of Aristotle. FAIR condition, ex-university library. A few minor library treatments to the interior and exterior. Vellum backstrip effectively DETACHED along the spine having been crudely repaired with white tape along the hinges at one point. This repair has mostly given way. Upper of the backstrip MISSING, with a portion also missing from the tail. Moderate to heavy soiling to the covers, heaviest to the rear, with staining also present. Some scuffing. Extremities very scuffed and worn, with the vellum split and torn in many locations and the boards bumped, chipped and worn beneath. Text block solid, with repairs to the interior hinges with white tape. Several inscriptions and minor notes to the endpapers, with a few scattered marginalia in the interior. Uneven browning to the paper throughout, ranging from minor to heavy. Scattered minor to heavy foxing and minor soiling.
