2 Hamilton, Gail (Mary Abigail Dodge) A New Atmosphere
Boston Ticknor and Fields 1865 no Hard Cover Good No Jacket
Unsure if first edition. Copyright page gives the date of 1864. Title page has the red inked publisher’s logo present about half way from the bottom. Publisher’s catalog in the back is dated September 1864. Hamilton was an early feminist, known for her sharp wit and criticism of the prevailing attitudes toward women, especially in relation to men. This book is an early work of feminism and provides valuable insight in the genre of women’s studies. In GOOD+ condition. Covers with uneven moderate fading and sunning, especially to the front cover. Some scuffing and soiling. Extremities with some scuffing, with the corners bumped and scuffed. Spine pulled with some minor tattering to the foot and minor flaking to the head of the backstrip. Spine sun darkened. One small spot of fading noticeable on the back cover. Inner text is tight with the pages darkening a bit and minor sporadic foxing and very minor soiling to the pages. Pages 135-169 with a small dark stain about an inch long in the top fore edge margin. Still a charming copy of this early piece of feminist/women’s studies literature.
