First edition. Maroon cloth hardcover. 242 pages including index, plus ads. With two fold out maps present. Provenance: bears the signature of A.W. Longfellow, perhaps the son of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, although no certain provenance can be established. A history of Boston from its founding to its crucial role in the Revolution, Federalist Boston, its role in anti-slavery and other topics. In GOOD condition. Minor soiling and fading to the covers. An area of dampstain present along the lower rear hinge and rear cover, affecting about 1 by 3 inches. Small drip stain also on rear cover. Minor wear to the extremities. The head of the backstrip is pulled and has a one inch tear in it. Small half moon faint dampstain in the margin of the bottom page edges from pages 27-77, with dampstaining-faint affecting the faces of pages 72-75. Text otherwise clean and solid, with a slight forward lean to the binding. Still an attractive copy in GOOD condition.
